The force awakened a monster.
At Disney’s annual shareholders meeting in San Francisco, Disney and Lucasfilm announced details regarding Star Wars Episode VIII as well as details on the spin off film by Gareth Edwards, now titled Rogue One.
For Episode VIII, Rian Johnson has been confirmed to write and direct the film, which has been given a street date of May 26th, 2017. Known for directing the film ‘Looper’ as well as three episodes of AMC’s Breaking Bad (including “The Fly” episode), Johnson will be taking a huge step in the hallowed halls of science fiction as he tackles the story from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

For Rogue One, which has everyone guessing that it will be an X-Wing Rogue Squadron film, it will be from Gareth Edwards, the man behind ‘Monsters’ and the reboot of ‘Godzilla’. Set to star Felicity Jones (‘The Theory of Everything’), the film is slated to begin shooting in London this summer with its eye on the release date of December 16, 2016. Rogue One is based on an idea by vfx supervisor John Knoll, and was written by scribe Chris Weitz (‘Cinderella’)

That means we get Star Wars films in December of this year, December of next year, and May of 2017. Look for more details right here as they become available.
