The World of Cyberpunk 2077 Review
By Nolan P. Smith
It is one of the most anticipated video games in the past few years, and now it’s a beautiful artbook before the game even hits shelves. Dark Horse and CD Projekt Red bring the world -The World of Cyberpunk 2077, a fantastic companion book.
The over 150-page hardcover artbook takes you deep into the world of Cyberpunk 2077, and I mean deep. From the history of how the world became how it is, to the locations, vehicles, cybernetic enhancements, to the gangs and nomads that run the streets, you get a welcome center like guide to this brand new world- and I love it. With “articles” written by reporters in this Cyberpunk world, to the fake ads that riddle the pages: this is not merely an artbook; this is an experience into a war-torn world.
Video games, and any story, for that matter, are all about world-building. You must know your world inside and out- from the time the sun rises to the make and model of the car down the street- the creative team has to plan it all out. You see the painstaking detail here as we see logos for vehicles that look similar to what you know, yet ads that are familiar yet oh so different. This isn’t a book about the game Cyberpunk 2077- this is a book about the world it is in.
The artwork here is fantastic- such creativity goes into every aspect- from the layout to the amazing artwork and rendering, to the character designs, vehicle designs, cybernetic designs, the environments- it is all a sight to behold. This is the world built for the next big RPG, and I cannot wait to dive in. But it is the book’s overall package that seals the deal- all the elements work so well, it makes you want to keep reading, and keep learning about this world.
Dark Horse and CD Projekt Red have created a fantastic tome of video game artistry here. The game doesn’t release until the fall, but get a taste of what to expect and make sure to pick up this amazing art book.
