The Tick- Amazon Pilot Review- Go Tell it on the Mountain!

The TickAmazon Brings Ben Edlund’s The Tick Back, But it’s up to YOU to help The Tick Stay Alive

By Nolan P. Smith

(Victor Valley)– The Tick is one of those superheroes you have to love. So goofy and down to Earth, yet immensely strong (as strong as 10, no, 20 men… a bus stop worth of men), I have been a casual fan since the animated show on FOX all those years ago. So when I saw The Tick was going to Amazon as an entry for Pilot Season, I was very excited to see what was in store for this unlikely hero.

For those that don’t know, this hero started life as a comic book, created by Ben Edlund, back in 1988. Since then, The Tick has been thwarting evil from the four color page to the small screen as an animated feature and then back to the small screen as a live action show. Now, in 2016, we get to see how this version stacks up to the rest.

What we get is an amazing pilot that left me wanting to binge watch the entire season, had it been released. The production quality on this pilot is top notch; I love the way the story is introduced, and the focus on Arthur (Griffin Newman) and his crazy, tragic past, as well as his connection to the villain of the story, The Terror (Jackie Earle Hayley). The Tick himself is so spot on, it was a joy to see. Brought to life by Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy), the Tick is perfectly cast and I could not ask for a better voice for the big, blue ball of justice than this.

The quips, the battle cries, the sheer awkwardness- this, ladies and gentlemen, is The Tick. I can only hope we will get to see more of this superb new show. If you haven’t checked it out yet, head over to amazon.com/pilotseason and see for yourself. Then, make sure to do the survey and let Amazon know what you thought. I can only imagine the directions this show could go in if given the chance. I, for one, would be all in for a full season (or more) of The Tick.
