“You only get one shot, take it or leave it…”

Lin-Manuel Miranda, the visionary behind the smash hit musical, Hamilton, is bringing the world an early Christmas present in the form of The Hamilton Mixtape.

Taking tracks from the musical and remixing them with some of today’s hottest talents, the mixtape looks to be a massive hit with a look at the track list and all of the artists involved. With artists like Nas, Busta Ryhmes, Usher, Alicia Keys, The Roots, Sia, Aloe Blacc and more, this looks to be a celebration of the artwork known as Hamilton. The album drops on Dec 2nd, but if you pre-order now, you can access two tracks today: My Shot and It’s Quiet Uptown.

Of course, being a huge fan of Miranda’s historic work, I’ve already pre-ordered it and listened to the two tracks… over and over. My Shot feels like something that would be on a mixtape, which is a great feeling to have. With The Roots, Busta Rhymes, Joell Ortiz & Nate Ruess paying homage to the iconic number belted out by the characters of Alexander Hamilton, Hercules Mulligan, Lafayette,  John Lawrence and the infamous Aaron Burr, the remix does the original justice with poignant lyrics tied to the heart of the song. Kelly Clarkson tackles the emotional song “It’s Quiet Uptown” over a glorious and ominous beat, and knocks it out of the park. One of the most emotional parts of Hamilton, the remix is beautifully done, making me wish I could hear the rest of the tracks right now.

Also, though it should go without saying: if you support Lin-Manuel Miranda and all of the artists attached to this exciting project, then do the right thing: purchase the music, support the arts.
