Titan Comics Brings the Assassin’s Creed Manga to the States

Titan Comics has released a few books based on the Ubisoft Assassin’s Creed franchise. Now, with the movie set to launch in December, we get another exciting entry, this time in manga form. For my first review, I am taking a look at Assassin’s Creed: Awakening #1.

Unlike many fans out there, I am not really big into Assassin’s Creed. Nonetheless, I really dug this book. This book is set during the times of the Black Flag game, with the main character being Masato, a kid during our timeframe. I got a real ENDERS GAME feel when it was revealed that Masato was the one “in” this pirate world “game simulation”: the kid was a natural. Even taking on the full persona of pirate as well as the ruthlessness. I’m very curious to see what the future holds for young Masato and how it ties to Captain Edward in the pirate world.

The artwork is stark and full of action; I loved the action scenes in it. Writer Yano Takashi and artist Oiwa Kenji do a fantastic job here, and remember, this is coming from someone who is not too familiar with the whole world of Assassin’s Creed. But I know a good read when I see it, and this was a very fun book to read. I look forward to what happens to Masato and he dives deeper into another world.
