Doctor Who: Road to the Thirteenth Doctor- The Tenth Doctor #1 Review

The Thirteenth Doctor (portrayed by Jodie Whittaker) is coming. Her new season of the international sci-fi phenomenon will be released later this year. For all of the Whovians eagerly awaiting 13’s first adventure, Titan Comics has you covered.

Titan has released a new series of stand-alone stories that are paving the way to Jodie’s big entrance. The first in this series is “The Ghost Ship”, a one issue story of the Tenth Doctor and his comic companions Gabby and Cindy.

The Doctor has received a distress call and lands on a space station in chaos. The crew is being attacked by translucent figures that appear to be unstoppable. Will the Doctor be able to save the crew and protect his 2 trusty companions?

This is a fast-paced and fun issue. As a stand-alone story, The Ghost Ship feels like an episode of the show. From start to finish the reader gets a full range of emotions from many people’s favorite incarnation of the Time Lord. The Tenth Doctor is portrayed just as he is in the TV series, a wise and jaded, yet happy and excited traveler. James Peaty nailed this portrayal of the Tenth Doctor.

Not only are fans treated to an entertaining tale, but there is also a bonus story (like an after-credits scene). This additional telling expands on the Tenth Doctor’s adventures during the episode “The Girl in the Fireplace”. It fills in some interesting gaps in the story.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10. A spot-on portrayal of David Tennent’s Doctor with a fun story and scary-powerful villains.
