Los Angeles Comic Con Celebrates its Ninth Year This Weekend with Special Guests, Artists, Cosplay and More
By Nolan P. Smith
On October 11th-13th, the Los Angeles Convention Center will once again host the Los Angeles Comic Con. Now in its ninth year, this year’s convention has plenty for fans to be excited for: from a reunion of “The Office” cast, a Disney’s “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” Cosplay Contest, and guests including Ron Pearlman (Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy), Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings), and Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance, The Umbrella Academy), there is something for everyone.
Last year, over 106,000 fans attended the show for celebrity panels, autograph signings, cosplay, a robust exhibit hall, and more. The event plays host to 800+ diverse artists and vendors, selling comics, collectibles, art, toys, apparel, and everything in-between. Vendors and artists include Hot Topic, who will have a wave of exclusive Funko Pop! Figures available at the show, John Romita Jr (Spider-Man, Thor), David Mack (Kabuki), Digger Mesch (The Other Dead), Neal Adams (Batman), David Pepose (Spencer & Locke), Frank Gogol (Dead End Kids), and more.
The LA Comic Con brings together everything pop culture, from comic books to comedians, like Gabriel Iglesias. The actor/comedian will be a part of a Netflix “Mr. Iglesias” Panel alongside his co-stars from the popular show. Fans of the famous “Kim Possible” cartoon are in luck as a Kim Possible reunion takes place on Saturday. Comic book creator Rob Liefeld will honor the late, great Stan Lee in a tribute panel, sharing memories from their over 30-year friendship. Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes will be on hand for a special “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” panel, and there is a special “Zombieland: Double Tap” segment set with director Ruben Fleischer. Fans of the popular Mayans MC show on FX can meet actors Clayton Cardenas, Richard Cabral, Michael Irby, and Frankie Loyal on Sunday.
