So, you finally scored a badge to San Diego Comic-Con — the pop culture mecca of the world. Congratulations! Whether you’re going for the exclusives, the panels, the cosplay, or just to soak in the experience, SDCC is unlike anything else. But if it’s your first time, prepare yourself: it’s fun, it’s chaotic, it’s overwhelming — and with the right prep, it’s unforgettable.

Here’s your ultimate Comic-Con Survival Guide!

1. Know Before You Go: Badge & Portal Prep

Before Comic-Con begins, make sure:

  • You’ve registered your badge on your Comic-Con Member ID account.
  • You’ve have your confirmation emails from the Exclusives Portal Lottery if you’re eyeing limited items like McFarlane Toys’ Tatis Jr. figure or Funko drops.
  • You’ve bookmarked your barcode confirmation email — you’ll need it to get in!

2. Pack Like a Pro

Your backpack is your lifeline. Don’t overpack, but make sure you include:

  • Water bottle (refill stations are available)
  • Snacks (granola bars, trail mix — you’ll thank yourself later)
  • Phone charger or power bank
  • Sharpie (you never know when you’ll run into a celebrity)
  • Hand sanitizer and wipes
  • Poster tube for prints
  • Small folder for autographs or flat items
  • Comfortable shoes — you’ll be on your feet a LOT

3. Master the Exhibit Hall

The Exhibit Hall is massive and overwhelming. Map out booths you want to visit ahead of time, especially for:

  • Exclusive merch drops
  • Publisher giveaways
  • Photo ops and signings
Follow your favorite companies and creators on social media — they often post real-time updates on restocks, giveaways, and surprise signings.

4. Plan (But Stay Flexible)

Use the official Comic-Con app or site to create a personalized schedule, but be ready to pivot. Lines for Hall H and Ballroom 20 panels form early — sometimes the night before. Prioritize what you really want to see, and don’t stress if plans change. Some of the best moments happen spontaneously at SDCC.

5. Cosplay Respectfully

If you’re cosplaying, that’s awesome — SDCC is full of passionate creators. Just remember:

  • Hydrate often and rest when you need to
  • Be respectful — always ask before taking someone’s photo
  • If you’re not in costume, be kind and encouraging to those who are
  • Hands to yourself- Cosplay is not consent!

6. Food: Fuel the Fandom

Food inside the convention center is expensive and often mediocre. If you can, step outside for real food:

  • The Gaslamp Quarter has tons of nearby restaurants, food trucks, and coffee shops
  • For speed, consider mobile ordering from places like Subway or Chipotle nearby
  • Don’t forget to eat! A hangry con-goer is a sad con-goer.

7. Stay Safe, Stay Sane

  • Keep an eye on your belongings
  • Be aware of your surroundings (especially in crowds or while filming)
  • If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a break — walk behind the convention center and enjoy the view!

8. Document Your Journey

This is the stuff memories are made of! Whether it’s your first Con or your fiftieth:

  • Take photos, record video, or even journal highlights
  • Share to social using hashtags like #SDCC2025 and tag @PastramiNation for a chance to be featured!
  • Pro tip: Get your phone ready! Delete photos and videos to make space for your new memories!

9. After-Con Etiquette

  • Tip your Uber/Lyft drivers and local staff — SDCC brings big business, and kindness goes a long way.
  • Stay hydrated and rest when you get home. Post-Con Crash is real.
  • Share your haul, favorite moments, and cosplay shoutouts online — it’s part of the fun!

10. Enjoy the Magic

San Diego Comic-Con is more than just a convention — it’s a celebration of everything we love about pop culture. From comics and collectibles to creators and communities, you’re stepping into a world of imagination. Soak it in, smile often, and nerd out proudly.
