Avengers Smash Records on Opening Weekend

Much like the jade giant himself…the Avengers smashed.

Everyone expected Marvel’s flagship team to perform well, but it did way better than well. The Avengers now holds the highest grossing weekend opening ever in North America, as the film is estimated to bring in around $200.3 million. The previous record belonged to boy wizard Harry Potter’s swan song, which held the old record at $169.2 million.

The Avengers also holds the records for being the fastest movie to reach the $100, $150, and $200 million marks. Joss Whedon’s modern day masterpiece marks a milestone for comic book movies, films in general, and for the entire comic book community. Honestly, I could not be happier to see this film do what it has done so far, and it is far from finished.
