(Victor Valley)— When Walt Disney Animation Studios announced that their next project would be based on a Marvel Comics property, fans everywhere rejoiced. This is the studio that brought the world “Wreck-It Ralph” and “Frozen”, after all. Yet, when finding out that the movie would center around the little known super group Big Hero 6, some wondered what Disney was thinking. After seeing the film, I can say for certain that any reservation the skeptics might have will be put to rest.

Big Hero 6 is a super hero home run.

The story focuses on teenage prodigy Hiro (Ryan Potter), a kid with a knack for electronics, being paired with the oversized medical assistance robot Baymax (Scott Adsit) after a series of events that changes young Hiro’s life forever. The two, along with a rag tag group of college geeks, don armor and state of the art weaponry in an effort to stop a villain in a kabuki mask who has an army of tiny robots at his disposal.

The group of heroes in Big Hero 6 is composed of Hiro, Baymax, Wasabi No Ginger, Go Go Tomago, Honey Lemon and Fred: sounds like a crazy group by names already, right? It is a very different group of heroes for a very different superhero movie. The heart of the story is about coping with loss and not giving in to the emotions that come with it. It will take controlling not only super powers, but also the emotions we have all felt, to win the day and defeat the mysterious villain.

This movie has everything going for it: a stunning, vibrant world, excellent character designs, a very fitting voice cast, humor, action, and scenes that just might tug at a heartstring or two. Everyone will be loving the robot Baymax, as well as loving this film, which takes the top spot for animated films in 2014 for me.
