“Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard And Soft: The Tour” proves that Eilish is a rockstar. Watching her perform in 3D is an experience like now other and it’s amazing to see her command a sold out arena with a few simple words. The live band on stage isn’t forgotten but when she’s performing it feels like it’s just her and a microphone. Besides her on stage antics, there are some powerful behind the scenes moments captured as well. Her fans share what she means to them and it’s a perfect of example of how art can save lives.
After watching the movie, it makes perfect sense that James Cameron would want to bring this story and show to life on the big screen. In his films he tackles larger than life ideas and grounds them in a way we can all understand. A rock star at the height of her success falls into that category. She’s bigger than life for many but through interviews and behind the scenes footage she is grounded in a way we can all relate to. Her passion for the fans and what she does for a living is authentic and Cameron captures that beautifully on film.
Going into this movie I knew who Billie Eilish was and only knew what was on the surface. Our daughter has been a huge fan for years and through her I grew an appreciation for her art and music. When this movie was announced it flew to the top of her list and seeing how one of my favorite filmmakers was involved, it was a win/win for both of us. As a family, Titanic is one of our favorite films and the fact that Cameron was doing this project meant a lot to both of us. By the time I walked out of this movie I was a fan of Billie and understood what she means to her fans. She’s more than just a role model; she’s a voice for the voiceless and the inspiration many need to come out of their shells and be who they were born to be.
Overall, this film is a blast and a jolt of energy from beginning to end. It’s an emotional journey that many of us can relate to on some level. It’s about fandom and finally seeing your favorite artist in person. It’s also about being an artist and the vulnerability that comes with putting your art out there. It works on many levels and succeeds at all of them. I certainly recommend seeing it in theaters with a crowd and vibing with the show. It’s fun and you might walk away with a new appreciation for Billie and what she has to offer.
