Let’s Kickstart This! The Foreigner- Volume 1
The Foreigner Looks to Find a Home on Kickstarter
By Nolan P. Smith
Well, it is that time once again. Time to shine the light down on an amazing, imaginative project in the world of crowdfunding as we look to the world of Kickstarter for another installment of Let’s Kickstart This! This week, we look at a project that comes from my favorite section of Kickstarter: comic books.
The Foreigner, written and illustrated by Kensuke Okabayashi, takes us to a land far away, full of robots, fairies, and a socially awkward man named Kaz. Here’s some info straight from the Kickstarter page:
The Foreigner is an original graphic novel written and illustrated by Kensuke Okabayashi, professional illustrator and published author. Kensuke has been working on The Foreigner since 2010, and the project has grown to be a two-volume graphic novel that follows Kaz’s adventure as he struggles against robots, evil fairies, and three embattled royal families to save his wife and return home to Brooklyn.
Kensuke is no stranger to visual arts, having clients spanning Marvel, Magic the Gathering and more. This project caught my eye for many reasons: the first being the artwork. Clean, crisp artwork, coupled with great character designs, drew me into the project. I like stories that follow a “hero” displaced from their home, and it looks like we get that here with an almost Wonderland-esqe adventure in tow for Kaz.
Personally, I backed this project because this looks like something I would want to read. Kickstarter is all about giving life to creativity, so why not help make The Foreigner spring to life?
