Black Mask and Soul Temples gangster horror story continues. In this issue, more light is shed on the character of Anthony Starks. Light isn’t a metaphor because this fool is as dark as they come. I’m sure there is a sensitive side somewhere in there but we have yet to see it. Anthony Starks keeps it gangsta in his pursuit for the mysterious records. His skills are put to the test for the DeLuca family as he is sent to infiltrate a rival family only to kill everyone in the room in true godfather fashion; a little gangsta dialogue ending in gunfire just like we want.
If your looking for a comic with a hero filled with purpose and tights: this isn’t it. Soul Temple and Black Mask Studios’ 12 Reasons to Die is a legit gangster-horror story. A cross between Evil Dead and the Good Fellas, the story is engaging and the gross cinematic style art is on point. Even though we have yet to see the Ghostface Killah, the story set ups are crisp and gives the story a steady transition. If you get a chance to pick this up you’ll be glad you did. Pastrami Nation Scale is a FOUR, cuz this Shaolin keeps it Wu. Till next time, cheers!
