This past weekend, Rose City Comic Con 2024 took over Portland, bringing the best of pop culture to the forefront. Pastrami Nation was there, and for two of us, it was our very first time experiencing Rose City. Although I’m a newcomer to this convention, I’m no stranger to the comic-con scene, having covered events like WonderCon, Long Beach Comic Con, Comic Con Revolution in Ontario, and the legendary San Diego Comic-Con. So, how did Rose City measure up?
Rose City Comic Con stands apart as a unique experience. Held at the Oregon Convention Center, the con had its own energy. The venue added to the creative atmosphere, and the event truly felt like a celebration of pop culture and Portland. The exhibit hall offered many attractions, including big names like Dark Horse and Oni Press, a bustling Artist Alley, and a Makers Market. Local businesses and creators were well represented, showcasing everything from custom water bottles to pop culture-themed fudge. It displayed Portland’s creativity and pride, with smiles and originality at every corner.
The programming was equally impressive, with ASL services available for all Main Stage events. Attendees saw panels featuring Daredevil’s Charlie Cox, cast members from the hit show Our Flag Means Death, and more. Beyond the panels, there was a wealth of activities to enjoy, including a Crunchyroll lounge and a dedicated Star Wars room for cosplayers and photo ops. The sheer variety and uniqueness of the show blew me away. The positive energy was palpable, from the friendly staff in the Press Room to the exhibitors and attendees throughout the event.
I’m already looking forward to returning next year. Rose City Comic Con was something extraordinary. If you’re interested in attending, next year’s dates are already up, so visit (https://rosecitycomiccon.com/) for more information.
