Shredder in Hell #1 Review: The Eternal Fight

By Nolan P. Smith

Again, this was not on my review list this week, but seeing a book called Shredder in Hell just called for me to pick it up. It seems the greatest nemesis to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles met his grisly end years ago, decapitated after a hard-fought battle. But you can’t keep a good villain down, and his struggle continues in the afterlife.

From writer/artist Mateus Santolouco, we see that someone is trying to resurrect the fallen leader of the Foot Clan, and at the same time, the man known as Oroku Saki is going through the journey of the afterlife. On this journey, he comes across the founder of the Foot Clan, Takeshi Tatsuo, and is guided by his old friend and enemy, Splinter. The journey looks impressive, the artwork is off the charts. It complements this story perfectly, as we almost root for Shredder to pull through. If there were ever a person in the TMNT to beat Hell, it would be old Shred-Head himself.

I loved this first issue, and it makes me want to buy the hardcover volumes of the IDW run of the TMNT. This is such a great idea, and it looks like it will build to the landmark 100th issue of TMNT. If you have ever been a fan of the Turtles, I cannot recommend this book enough. Shredder is in Hell; and Hell better watch out.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10.
