Summer Sensation ‘Sharknado 2: The Second One’ Devours the Big Screen in an Exclusive One-Night Event
By Staff Reports
Just when audiences thought it was safe to go back to the movie theater… they will get a fresh dose of scares and laughs as Syfy’s “Sharknado 2: The Second One” hits cinemas nationwide for a one-night event: Thursday, Aug. 21 at 8 p.m. local time, courtesy of Fathom Events, Syfy and The Asylum. With the action moving to New York City and featuring an eclectic cast that includes Ian Ziering and Tara Reid from Syfy’s 2013 sensation “Sharknado,” plus Vivica A. Fox, Mark McGrath, Kari Wuhrer, Judah Friedlander and Kelly Osbourne, “Sharknado 2: The Second One” is bigger in every way than the original. Fathom Events fans will also get a sneak peek into the making of the film with 10 minutes of exclusive, never-before-seen footage including a look into the special effects, hilarious bloopers and more.
Tickets for “Sharknado 2: The Second One” are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. The event will be presented in more than 400 select movie theaters nationwide through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network. For a complete list of theater locations and prices, visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).
The original “Sharknado” created a major storm of social activity and audience engagement that was as unexpected as the movie’s titular event, when it first aired on Syfy on July 11, 2013. After generating close to 5,000 tweets per minute and 400,000-plus social mentions, Fathom Events and the film’s producer, The Asylum, brought that film to theaters for a rowdy midnight screening last August. With even more sharks, more stars and a bigger city for the carnivorous creatures to feast on, a debut on the big screen for “Sharknado 2: The Second One” was in order.
Once again produced by The Asylum, “Sharknado 2: The Second One” is the story of a freak weather system that turns its deadly fury on New York City, unleashing a Sharknado on the population and its most cherished, iconic sites – and only Fin (Ziering) and April (Reid) can save the Big Apple. The killer sharks are unleashed initially on Wednesday, July 30, on Syfy.
“We anticipate the tidal wave of Sharknado fans will hit local movie theaters once again this August as fans get their next chance to experience this phenomenon in the biggest way possible,” Fathom Events CEO John Rubey said.
