Throwaways 01-1By Art Macias

The book I got a hold of this week is the Throwaways first issue by Image Comics.  The story starts off in the middle of a vicious battle with two against a squad of military black ops, who are trying to kill them for unknown reasons.  At the end of the battle, we see flashback four hours earlier to learn a little about our two protagonists, who are on the verge of death.

First up is Abby, a military veteran with a secret that is keeping her from entering back into society.  While she attends a support group for military veterans, a tragic event occurs and sets her on the path to meeting our second protagonist, Dean Logan.  Dean is your run of the mill bike messenger, who’s father was labeled as a terrorist. Now both are on the trail of who is behind the death squad sent to kill them and for what reasons.

The story written by Caitlin Kittredge who is famous for the Iron Codex and recently worked on Lucas Stand with Kurt Sutter, nails the fast pace world of black ops and murder.

The artwork by Steven Sanders is crisp and great for the action and subtle facial expressions.  I also love that he drew Dean wearing a Black Flag shirt…pretty cool.

Give Throwaways a read, you wont be disappointed with either the art or the story.
