(Victor Valley)– If you could make yourself beautiful by simply catching a disease, would you? Aside from amazing good looks, you would have mild side effects such as a slight fever, higher metabolism, and spontaneous human combustion!
Welcome to the world of The Beauty. In this world of intrigue and greed, a sexually transmitted disease has spread across the world at an alarming rate. The problem is that people are intentionally catching this disease because transmission guarantees instant beauty for the victim. Without knowing the truth behind the disease, a majority of humanity has become infected and unintentionally given themselves a death sentence. When detectives Foster and Vaughn discover the terrible secret about the disease, they are thrown into a whirlwind of greed, deception, and murder. With the clock ticking on everyone who has the disease, they must find a cure and inform the public before it is too late.
After a spectacular 6 issues, Image has collected the first story arc of this seminal series into its first trade paperback. Featuring commentary by the creators and a beautiful (pun intended) collection of variant covers, this trade paperback is a must have for any fan of Jeremy Haun and the fascinating world that he and Jason Hurley have created.
It is no secret that I have been a fan of this series since the first issue. I had the opportunity to meet Jeremy Haun at a recent comic expo. It is very apparent that The Beauty has been a passion of his for a long time. He is really excited about the fan reception and the story arcs to come. He is working on the second and third arcs as I type this.
With a truly original premise, and a stunning art style, fans can look forward to more action and excitement for Foster and Vaughn in the coming story arcs.
Rating: 10 out of 10. It is rare that I give a score this high, but The Beauty has been an amazing series and this collection illustrates the creativity and originality of the writers and artists.
