Real Rap Song of the Day: "One Life" by The Last Emperor, Poetic and Esthero
Me and Death is playing chess ever since then…
My strength is the most high, my fam and close friends…
The Last Emperor was once a protege to the mad doctor himself, Dr. Dre. But he eventually parted ways with Aftermath and started to make music on his own. “One Life” is off of his Music, Magic and Myth album. This is, by far, one of the most emotional, personal songs ever made. It features Poetic of the group Gravediggaz and Esthero on the haunting hook. But it is Poetic who steals the show, even from the awesome talents of the Last Emperor.
Poetic was passed away in 2001 from colon cancer, and this song was recorded during the pain he endured before he passed. his lyrics hold nothing back, talking about death, the disease, and mortality. This is a must hear for any rap fan. Rest in Peace, Poetic.
