Age of Reptiles: Ancient Egyptians TPB Review- A Return for the Ages

(Victor Valley)—Visionary artist Ricardo Delgado has done it again with his latest tale in the critically acclaimed Age of Reptiles series, Ancient Egyptians from Dark Horse Comics.

The four-issue mini-series is now collected in one, slick trade paperback with bonus content like concept sketches of the dinosaurs and more. The collected version of this visual masterpiece hit bookstores this month and is flying off the shelves for good reason. For those that aren’t familiar with Delgado’s work on Age of Reptiles- his stories are detailed, amazing, and all told with no dialogue, no captions- no words at all. It shows the amazement of what sequential art can do.

Age of Reptiles: Ancient Egyptians takes us back to prehistoric Africa in a beautifully illustrated, brutal landscape done as only Delgado can do. Every scene is full of life and exquisite detail. It focuses around a lone character, a sort of “dark horse”, the mighty Spinosaurus. We feel as if we are right there with a carnivore that was larger than a T-Rex and feel everything that is going through in the harsh environment.

Ancient Egyptians is the latest story in the AOR series and in my opinion the most touching. This book is a must have for dinosaur enthusiasts and comic fans alike with its brilliant artwork and superb storytelling. It is by far the most visual stunning story ever told without words.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
