5. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Sony’s animated masterpiece helped end the year on a high note. Excellent story, fantastic animation, and a public introduction to the all-new Spider-Man, Miles Morales. Easily the best-animated film this year, and one of our picks for Best of 2018.

4. Venom

I think every comic book fan was nervous about this one. For many, it didn’t hit its mark. But for many, it did. Tom Hardy took on the role of Eddie Brock, the lethal protector, and in doing so, launched Sony’s version of the Marvel Universe into orbit. The villain may have been a bit underwhelming, but seeing Venom himself done justice on the big screen was a sight to behold.

3. Black Panther

One of the biggest movies of 2018, Black Panther had to be in our top 5 of the year. A fresh, original film introducing Marvel’s royal family of Wakanda, Black Panther had it all. A noble hero striving to fill the shoes of his father, one of the best villains we have seen in the MCU, the outstanding designs of the technologically advanced Wakanda- and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. One of the best comic book movies of all time, Black Panther is sure to return for years to come.

2. Aquaman

Surprised to see a DC film in the top 5? We were pleasantly surprised as well. DC’s nautical hero made a splash at the box office in December and had made Aquaman a legitimate hero to moviegoers. Jason Momoa showed he could carry a flick, and it shows the Aquaman is no longer the joke of the Justice League. Green Lantern anyone? The king continues to reign, let’s see if Shazam can keep it going in 2019.

1. Avengers: Infinity War

With a snap, the Avengers took the top spot of 2018. Josh Brolin’s portrayal of the Mad Titan made him the best villain in the MCU, and the dramatic, somewhat depressing film crushed fans across the globe. Taking away half the heroes? Better believe there were kids and adults crying about that one. Setting up for one of 2019’s most anticipated films with Avengers: Endgame, Infinity War takes the top spot and then some.
