(Victor Valley)– With the fourth issue, the mini series of Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Dragons comes to an end, and does so in spectacular fashion. For this installment, we journey to feudal Japan to see a young warrior risk her life to battle a dragon who has been plaguing the lands.

Writer and artist Jorge Corona (Feathers, We are Robin) closes out Dragons with a tale of revenge and retribution. Tokoyo is a young samurai who ventured into the Oki Islands as she searches for her banished father. This leads her face to face with a dangerous dragon that locals have been sacrificing to in order to protect their homes. Based on the Japanese folklore of the dragon Yofune Nushi, the story has our young hero not only go blade to teeth with the dragon, but also allows her to reflect on what exactly is going on in her life.

Corona crafts a tale that oozes with mythological greatness. I love the time period the book is set in, along with the traditional, long, snake like dragon as seen in the ancient myths of Japan. His artwork feels like it would be related to the wall scrolls seen in the ancient past, with nods to its history throughout the issue. We get a strong, female lead with Tokoyo, one who doesn’t back down, even when the chips are down.

Like all the Storyteller issues, this one comes with a moral as well: to not let hate consume you to the point to where your vision is clouded to reality. I thoroughly enjoyed this mini series, and this issue is my second favorite out of the bunch, with issue #1 still being my favorite. The Storyteller series has cranked out some amazing, high quality stories from some of the best creators in comics, and this issue is no different. This is a great send off for Dragons, as it soars into the sunrise.

Rating: 9.0 out of 10.
