Ninjak #14 Review- Burn Notice

Ninjak 14Ninjak #14 is non stop action in this perfect jumping on point

Review by Nolan P. Smith

(Victor Valley)—With this issue of Ninjak, Valiant Entertainment provides an excellent jumping on point for readers as the latest storyline, The Siege of King’s Castle, kicks off.

For those that don’t know, Colin King, better known as Ninjak, is one of the most dangerous men on the planet. Wealthy, well-trained, and not afraid to kill at a moments notice- it’s a good thing he works for MI-6 to take down the evils of the world. But with this new story arc, we see Ninjak in an unfamiliar setting. His home, King’s Castle, is reduced to rubble, and for all intents and purposes, he is “burned” and made to appear as a homicidal maniac. With no home, no funds, no weapons and no one he can trust, Ninjak must find out who has done this to him, and fast.

Writer Matt Kindt (Divinity, Dept. H) creates the perfect entry point for new readers, as we get a brief moment that explains who Ninjak is, and then it is an action packed sequence of events that refuses to stop. When you have your back against the wall and the world comes tumbling down, it really shows what strength we have. This is that moment for Ninjak, as the millionaire playboy with millions of weapons and unlimited funds at his disposal is reduced to possessing only the clothes on his back- now it is time to see what he is really made of. The astounding artwork is provided by Diego Bernard (X-O Manowar), with a back up take illustrated by Khoi Pham, which shows a look into Ninjak’s bloody past.

This is a perfect way to transition into a new storyline as well as to bring new readers on board to one of Valiant’s best heroes. This was a non-stop, action packed book reminiscent of the hit TV show Burn Notice, which, for me, is an amazing comparison to draw. If you haven’t tried Ninjak yet, I urge you to pick up this issue and be ready to add another comic to your pull list.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10.
